Toko

A few months ago, when Heidi and I went to Bourke Street Bakery for breakfast together, we walked pass by the interesting Japanese restaurant, Toko, and saw the degustation menu about Tasting menu for $70. We both agreed that we will come here to try. After that, I found the review from Be The Foodie about the place, I quickly sent it to Heidi to reconfirm that I really wanted to go :D

The restaurant has no booking policy so we decided to go there at 6 pm. The interesting list of cocktail amazed us but too bad, I was still suffered from Reflux :'(

I was quite excited cuz I didn't go eating out for awhile. We had the Edamame $6.30 but the photo I took is very blur.

Maguro No Miso Taru Taru (Tuna Tartar & Baby Shiso Leaves with Barley Miso Dressing)

The first dish was brought to us and I was so happy. The flavour of the tartar was very well-balanced. The sweet potato chips added the fun texture.

Gyu Niku No Tataki (Seared Beef, Pickled Onions, Mizuna & Garlic Chips)

The thinly sliced seared beef swiming in the pool of slightly sour sauce. The beef, pickled onion and garlic chip in one bite was quite good but the tuna tartar was stolen my heart.

Watari-gani Kara-age (Crispy Soft Shell Crab with Wasabi Mayonaisse)

Who doesn't like soft shell crab with mayonaisse? (if any, not me of course). Dipped in wasabi mayonaisse is even better.

Piri Kara Dofu To Abogado (Spicy Fried Tofu with Avocado Salsa & Barley Miso)

It was difficult to eat the whole thing in 1 bite but I managed to do it. The soft tofu with the slightly crisp outside. I think the red thing on top was super fine-chopped chilli.

Omakaze Zushi (Assorted Selection of Toko Rolls & Nigiri)

Couldn't remember but I think its robster roll and salmon roll. Nice seasoned but the rice was a bit too hard for my liking. (Heidi said its normal though)

Hotate No Jalapeno Amazu Zoe (Robata Grilled Scallop with Sweet Pickled Apple & Jalapeno Garlic)

First taste I noticed, was very familiar. Then here you go, it tasted like the Thai street grilled squid..haha (in a nice way). The sauce was tangy with a hint of sweetness. And the daikon on top softened the dish.

Ami Yaki Ro-Su Niku To Wafe Sauce (Scotch Fillet Steak with Wafu Sauce & Garlic Chips)

The best dish of the night ! I love it so much. The more you chew, the more flavour come out. The beef was so tender, juicy and very flavourful. I want more !

Zucchini No Wafu Yaki (Zuchini with Wafu Sauce & Sesame Seeds)

The beef came with the grilled zuchini, good combination, cooked just nice.

Come to dessert !

There are a molten chocolate cake, green tea creme brulee (my fav), coffee creme brulee, yoghurt with vanilla ice cream and mango jelly, Ice creams (chocolate, melon and lime) and seasonal fruits.

hehe, we were all happily taking photo with a huge dessert platter.
